Questions about a Mary-thon or Marython.net? Find answers here! (hopefully!)
What is a:
- Half Mary-thon: A Half Mary-thon is any exercise for 30 minutes a day, at least 3 days a week, for 26 weeks
- Mary-thon: A Mary-thon is any exercise for 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 26 weeks
- Mega Mary-thon: A Mega Mary-thon is any exercise for 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 52 weeks!
- Project Linus is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.”First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.”

Why support a charity?
Most marathons and fitness events sponsor a charity as part of their registration fee. Mary-thon is thrilled to make Project Linus a recipient of our hard work and dedication. There are so many family members, friends, associates, and co-workers who love the Project Linus mission and want to support Project Linus in some way but they simply do not want to make blankets. What a perfect way for them to “team up” with others (or participate on their own) and commit to 26 weeks of exercise! When you register as a Premium Mary-thoner, Project Linus receives $15. Think of all the children going through a life-crisis who will receive a hug of comfort from a Project Linus blanket as a result of YOUR efforts!
Can I contribute directly to Project Linus?
- Of course, contact them directly at Project Linus Contact
What is a:
- Rookie Member: ”Rookies” are those attempting a Mary-thon for the first time.
- Junior Varsity: The JV is for those that are doing a Half Mary-thon. We hope they will be a Varsity member next!
- Varsity: Varsity are those who have completed a full Mary-thon and are continuing another one! Awesome work!
- Golden Varsity: Golden Varsity members are those who have completed a full Mary-thon and participate as a Premium member. Awesome work, and thank you for your continued contributions to Project Linus!
- Hall of Fame: The Hall of Fame are for those who have shown a long term commitment to their health and fitness by completing at least 3 years of Golden Varsity qualifications.
- Mary-thon is very committed to Project Linus, so the first $15 of every Premium Mary-thon goes to Project Linus, a 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit Charity.
- The rest of the money goes to running Mary-thon. Mary-thon is not set up as a non-profit, but trust us, we’re not making much money if any. T-shirt, medals, and bracelets by themselves cost Mary-thon as much as $25. Then the cost of shipping, postal, internet etc., you can see, there’s just not much left over. In fact we considered setting up Mary-thon as a Not-for-profit as well, but the costs of doing so was too prohibitive.
- Mary-thon is a labor of love.
- Our T-shirt vendor charges us an extra $2.00 per each increment starting at 2X Large and above. We are just passing those costs through, we’re sorry that’s the case. Hopefully each year we’ll all be getting smaller and smaller shirts!

Dear Mary
Very proud of what you have done before for charity and doing now.
I am 60 yrs of age, have no health issues
can I start running now at this age??
Hi Julie,
I started running when I was 47. I usually “Run-Walk” – 2 minutes run, 1 minute walk for 3-4 miles. I didn’t start out doing that. I started by running from one light post to the next in my neighborhood – which was a MAJOR accomplishment. I love the “Livestrong” website – and there’s a great article about older runners. Here’s the link: http://www.livestrong.com/article/484672-how-to-run-after-60/
Basically – you just need to check with your doctor to make sure there’s no physical reason why you shouldn’t give it a try. If he/she says it’s ok – I’d say “Go for it!”
Also – I have a Mary’s Page post about an 84 year old Marathoner (26.2 miles). It makes me feel that if we’re in good health and in good shape – we can accomplish anything! Here’s the link to the Mary’s Page Post: http://www.marython.net/to-be-joy-ful-and-mary2/
Thanks for your note! Keep Moving Forward!
Mary
Mary, I am going to give this a try, only I am going to attempt to get going right away. I am so motivated by you…I remember us sitting in WW together and trying to stay on program. This along with WW will certainly be good. Am going to try and get Ron on board as well. Thanks for all you do.
Awesome! Thanks so much for joining us Bonnie!
And do they come in a choice of color?
Not this year, the 2012 t-shirt is a white tee with printing on front and back.
Thanks for your interest! We look forward to have you joining us!
So, what do the t-shirts look like?
